EDUCATION 2 EMPLOYMENT (E2E)
INITIATIVES

E2E INITIATIVES

E2E initiatives are free and help local schools to:

  • raise the profile of vocational education and its place as a highly desirable pathway, and

  • strengthen the pipeline of students coming into the vocational education system

JobBoard creates equitable opportunities for Year 12-13 students to experience the real world of work. They will build knowledge, learn valuable skills and improve their employability. Jobs suitable for school students are rostered after school on weekdays or on weekends.

CareerMentoring is another employability development initiative. It is a facilitated learning opportunity for Year 12 and 13 students to interact with young working professionals in their field of interest. Our mentor and mentee ratio is 1 to 4. Over the 3-hour structured interaction, students gain an insight into the professionals’ roles and possible career paths, and receive academic and career advice. This is followed up with Job Shadowing and possible Work Experience placement to enhance their career goals.

We run career events that help prepare Wellington tauira for the world of work. For example, the VET Summit is designed for the leading youth-friendly employers of six Workforce Councils to showcase their apprentices' success and collaborate with Wellington schools to help young people adapt and keep up with emerging changes.

GearUP is made of four hours of online learning and a 1 hour online group workshop that prepares Year 12-13 students for work. Upon completing the course, students will receive a GearUp certificate for their CVs, and an acknowledgement of their employment preparation.

We work with youth-friendly employers to provide workplace tour opportunities for school students, such as Discover a World where “Humanity and Technology meet” with Wellington’s largest independently-owned digital agency, Springload. They will have the opportunity to get a people-driven digital experience while trying their UX designs and can take their “product” back to school and home.

We work with youth-friendly employers to provide work experience opportunities from two days to two weeks that help school students to:

  • Get a taste of the real world of work

  • Better understand working in a professional environment

  • Learn more about a job or industry

  • Develop and apply skills and prepare for employment

  • Provide valuable experience to put on their CVs to increase the chances of finding a job
